Jachtschotel or hunter's beef stew

A very cosy dutch filling recipe, very suitable for winter days. Though, it is not so cold here yet, we enjoyed it a lot. A good thing, you don't have to make side dish:) But nice fresh salad would go well.

600-800 g lean beef
2 tb.s. flour
vegetable oil
50 g butter
30 g bacon
2 onions
4 cloves
10 juniper berries (or 5 t.s. gin, or just a little caraway seeds)
2 bay leaves
300 ml red dry wine
2 thin slices of very brown bread+pinch of cinnamon or dutch ontbijtkoek - breakfast cake
potato puree
2 apples

First fry meat with flour on oil and butter until very golden, then add onions, cloves, bay leaves, berries and bacon. When it's got nice color, add wine and turn the heat low, put a lid on top and cook for apr. 2 hours, stearing occassionally and adding some water, when needed.
Preheat oven 180C, put puree on top of meat, and thin slices of apple over it.
Bake for the crust for ap. 15 minutes.
