This is one of the 12 dishes, served at Christmas Eve in some of the eastern slavic countries. Apart from being a tradition, it is also healthy and quite nice.
I took:
1,5 cups wheatberries
1-2 t.s. honey
handful raisins
handful walnuts (toasted and chopped)
poppy seeds (apr. half a cup)
Cover wheatberries with hot water for the night. In the morning rinse them and cook in new water for about an hour or even less. They will be still a bit hard and every grain will be apart. Save the cooking water.
Cover raisins with boiling water for 10 minutes, rinse and add to the wheat together with honey and possibly some of the cooking water to make it more moist. Add nuts.
If using poppy seeds (which I did not have this time), cover them with hot water (just cover), let them stand for 15 minutes, then using blender mash them, add honey and then add to the cooked wheat (not using any additional water).
In my case it was just a healthy breakfast for me (actually this quantity is enough for 3 breakfasts). Keep in fridge.
